As the new owners, our family has just completed a major renovation to this magnificent Victorian building to bring it to the highest standards possible. There are 15 en-suite rooms, each individually designed with a delightfully different decor, most with spectacular ocean views. The hotel has been awarded 4 Diamonds by the English Tourist Board for our standards of luxury and service. The Empress of the Sea offers a beautiful public lounge overlooking the English Channel. Whether you want to spend time reading your favourite book, or tickling the ivories on our grand piano, you can do it in quiet elegance. Enjoy a refreshing drink as you watch the ships sail into the ocean from a vantage point second to none. Tea is available afternoons and groups can be served by reservation. Our spacious dining room serves an extensive breakfast daily and a three course dinner by reservation. Our executive chef, Terry Overton, can prepare dishes for those who have special diets, or for those who just want something a little extra. The cuisine is traditional British fare, or for those a bit more adventurous we offer American and Continental dishes. For something a little romantic, our evening meal can be served by candlelight, or room service is also available (for an added charge). The Empress of the Sea is located on the cliff overlooking the beautiful English Channel with excellent views, yet just a few minutes walk from Shanklin Old Village. For those who enjoy a walk on the beach, we are just a short distance from the elevator. In the summer months you can enjoy a swim in our heated outdoor pool, or just sit on the terrace and soak up the sun.
