The hotel overlooks one of Bude's famous surfing beaches, which during the summer months is patrolled by professional life-guards, giving safe bathing right on our doorstep. For those who enjoy walking, the hotel is adjacent to the National Trust's Heritage Coast. Cliffs run north to Hartland Point and beyond, with bracing views from some of Britain's highest cliffs, dotted with clumps of pink candytuft where the ozone-laced air comes fresh off the Atlantic. The harbour and canal workings give a glimpse of Bude's past, which has grown from a working port during the last century into a delightful holiday town that has changed little since John Betjeman described it as one of the least spoilt of resorts.
