 Situated 50 miles west and south of Aberdeen and Inverness between the Ladder Hills and the Cairngorms. The hotel is in a very pretty location in Upper Donside.
WALKING......Situated between the Ladder Hills and the Cairngorms you are spoilt for choice. Whatever your level of fitness or experience, this area can offer you a challenge and much pleasure. We can help you plan routes and provide you with maps and compasses... just tell us your needs beforehand and we'll fix it. In some areas we can deliver meals to you out on the hills or we can arrange for you to be picked up and bring you back to the Hotel. Experienced Rangers are available, if you would like them to guide you. GOLF......Scotland is renowned for its many good quality courses, and this area is no exception. If you need our help, we can arrange transport, tee times, and green fees. With our local knowledge we can fix it, so that you spend your time playing Golf and not trying to make arrangements.' LET US FIX IT . FISHING......The river Don runs almost through our back garden and we have approximately six miles of it for fishing. There are plenty of Brown trout and some nice Salmon. Again give us notice of your requirements and we can arrange fishing in other rivers near by. PONY TREKKING......We have excellent facilities here with well run stables, good horses and ponies. This is a great way to see this lovely area, and the instructors who go with you are experienced in taking individuals or groups out and will help those less expert. It will be no problem to arrange and equipment can be provided. PHOTOGRAPHY......We have an experienced photographer and guide who can show you the best sites for viewing the abundant wildlife. He can help you 'Stalk'deer or 'Shoot' birds. PLEASE GIVE US NOTICE BIRDWATCHING......There is a great variety of birds to be seen here, especially during the spring summer months, and we have help at hand to take you to the best viewing spots. Crossbills, Ospreys, Oystercatchers and Eagles are all to be seen, and of course the Buzzard and Hen-harriers the scourge of the Grouse. CLAY-PIGEON SHOOTING......This can be organised for you, at a drop of a hat. We have a trap in the grounds of the Hotel and we can help with an experienced instructor, if required...and lend a gun. TOURING THE AREA......For those who wish to use the Hotel as a base for exploring the area in a car or on a bicycle, there is a great deal to be seen. We have our own castle in corgarff, but there thirteen in our glen of upper Donside, some of which have seen better days!. We have the Whisky Trail which allows you to see how the 'Water of life' is made. This is a very interesting area and much of Scotland's dramatic history was made in the Grampians region. This is the home of the Gordons, the Forbes and the Farquarsons who have left there marks over many genera. SKIING......From the Hotel it is a steep climb of about two miles to the Lecht ski centre, which provides runs suitable for beginners and those of intermediate abilities, cross-couture skiing is well catered for in this area. There is also a dry ski slope available all year round.
